The release of these 4 mandatory national standards for mushroom strains coincides with a macro-policy juncture of comprehensively tightening supervision over edible mushroom germplasm resources. On April 17, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) issued a notice deployment to launch the "2026 Seed Industry Supervision and Law Enforcement Enhancement Year" campaign nationwide. Edible mushroom strains, alongside potato seed tubers, have been designated as national key targets for rectification. Inspections will focus strictly on corporate production and operation qualifications, as well as filing status, while severely punishing illegal activities such as unlicensed operations and the sale of fake or substandard strains.
On April 24, the Seed Industry Management Department of MARA further initiated the 2026 Edible Mushroom Strain Quality Spot Check. This initiative targets 6 categories of strains with high frequencies of complaints and reports, including shiitake, black fungus, oyster mushroom, ganoderma (lingzhi), morel, and nameko, covering all levels from mother strains and stock strains to cultivated strains. The spot checks cover 8 major mushroom-producing provinces, including Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Fujian, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, and Sichuan. By combining offline on-site random sampling with targeted purchases on online e-commerce platforms, the campaign aims to thoroughly eliminate quality hazards across production and operation sectors.
From standard revisions to enforcement checks, and from source regulation to germplasm governance, edible mushroom seed industry supervision is forging a double closed-loop of "legalized standards + precision enforcement." May 1, 2027, will mark the critical milestone for the full implementation of this strain governance framework. By then, as the 4 new standards officially take effect, capital investment and technological upgrading by edible mushroom enterprises across production, inspection, packaging, and logistics sectors will shift from an industry "optional choice" to a legally "compulsory task."
