Some meetings are not large in scale, yet they manage to stay in people's memories for years. In November 2023, the first "Funong Mushroom Forum" was held in a slightly oppressive basement meeting room in Zhangzhou. There weren't enough seats, and more people stood than sat. The conditions were far from ideal, but everyone spoke candidly and listened intently because the discussions focused on real problems, real technologies, and real experiences.

Rules of the Forum: No empty talk, no avoidance of controversy, no pursuit of standard answers; let those who understand production talk about production, let those who understand equipment talk about equipment, bring researchers into the industry frontline, and let different views clash in exchange.

Stepping Out of the Basement, the Original Intention Remains Unchanged

In 2024, the forum discussed industry hot topics such as modular mushroom houses, sawdust fermentation tunnels, and morelle cultivation; in 2025, it came to Xiamen, sparking debates on "whether large-caliber bottle cultivation will replace bag cultivation models."

Venues can be upgraded, but the most precious things must never change: no high-and-mighty presiding stage, no pre-written standard answers, only respect for practice, facing problems head-on, letting a hundred schools of thought contend, and seeking solutions together.

After a Year and a Half, We Are Back

On September 19, 2026, the day before the opening of the exhibition, Professor Huang Yi and his team will gather in Xiamen once again. This time, Professor Huang Yi has handed over the responsibility of the forum to his beloved disciple — current Chief Scientist of the National Edible Mushroom Industry Technology System Researcher Huang Chenyang, who is fully responsible for the planning and implementation of this forum.

What is passed down is not just an event, but the "Funong Spirit" of respecting practice, studying real problems, daring to speak the truth, and serving the real industry!

Why is spawn unstable? Why are substrate costs getting higher and higher? Do facilities and equipment truly match production needs? Why don't good shiitake mushrooms necessarily sell for good prices? This forum will not feature broad, superficial reports; it will focus entirely on "shiitake," putting real problems along the industry chain out one by one.
